CASE STUDY

The client was a well known plastic surgeon based in West London. The brief was to find a venue, cost it, and run the whole project. After a fairly difficult search, a suitable venue was identified. The greatest challenge was D1 use but through careful negotiation of the rules, we managed to get D1 permission on the back of a GP centre on the floor below. I helped negotiate the rent, lease and terms and conditions with the landlords agent. A lease was signed and the project was live.

The space was circa 3600 square feet and the clinic was to include an operating theatre allowing sedation based anesthesia, three treatment rooms/consulting rooms, a quiet patient room, an ultrasound room, a large reception and staff facilities. The challenges were numerous, not least the building itself which gave very little flexibility to layout.

The clients’ standards were exacting and precise and the brief to provide the very best private clinic facility offering a unique set of treatments was very challenging indeed.

I found the architect and builders for the project. I also found a CQC consultant who oversaw the project from their perspective. As the building was being developed it was clear a lot of work was needed to complete the project in its entirety. I decided to live in London until it was finished. Thus, I split my time equally between London and Cheshire to ensure maximum focus on the project. The client agreed to pay the costs of accommodation to achieve this.

The project took from October 21st until late April to build. The whole project took over a year from idea through to opening date. I was involved in every single element of the project including the following...

•    Business plans and cashflows for the bank

•    sourcing finance

•    sourcing builders and architects

•    deciding on services

•    buying all equipment

•    buying all clinical furniture

•    layout

•    cost control

•    recruitment of staff

•    engagement with clinical team including surgeons to provide additional services for the clinic

•    finding P.R team

•    finding a marketing team

•    finding the CQC consultant

•    overseeing the building project

I was retained by the surgeon for some considerable time after the opening to aid with the business development, direction and marketing of the clinic. I am enormously proud of the project which simply would not have happened without me. Several surgeons have visited and now are considering duplicating this model.
